Current Officers

 

Chief Cal Smokowicz – 631

Cal has worked part-time for the Village as the “Marshal’s Office” Chief since June 1998.  He is however also currently employed as a full-time Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Supervisor.  Cal was a Patrol Lieutenant on nights until September 2006, when he was assigned as the Lieutenant in charge of investigations.  On January 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, overseeing the entire patrol division.  Cal has worked for State, County and Municipal Law Enforcement agencies since July 1982.  Cal’s wife is Michelle and they have three children, two girls and a boy.  He has a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

 

Officer Timothy Nichols – 634

Tim Nichols was hired as an officer for the Village of Melrose in May 2007.  Tim continues to be a full-time Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy who has been employed since 1999.  At the current time he holds the position of Detective at the Sheriff’s Department.  Tim has an Associate Degree in Police Science and numerous specialized trainings in Law Enforcement.  His trainings include being a Field Training Officer, Snowmobile Patrol and Motorcycle Patrol.  He is married and an avid outdoorsman.

 

Officer Jacob Jones – 635

Jacob has worked as a part-time Officer for the Village of Melrose since May 2004.  Jacob graduated from Western Wisconsin Technical College in May 2005 with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science.  He was hired in September 2005 by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in which he worked as a part-time Deputy until March 2006.  In March 2006, Jacob was hired full-time by the City of Tomah, where he currently works as a Patrol Officer.  While with the City of Tomah, Jacob has had advance training in narcotics enforcement, patrol tactics and is also a member of the Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit.  He has also attended the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse and has worked towards an Accounting Degree.

 

Officer Matthew Amidon – 636

Matthew Amidon has been employed by the Village of Melrose as a Reserve Officer since May 2008.  Matt was raised in the Melrose area and attended the local schools.  In May 2006 Matt earned an Associate Degree in Police Science from Western Wisconsin Technical College.

 

Officer Nicholas Gray – 637

Nick was hired in April 2006 part-time as a Patrol Officer for the Village of Melrose.  Nick is also currently serving as a full-time Deputy Sheriff for Jackson County and has been since 2003.  He has been part of many special units in Law Enforcement such as: Drug Abuse Resistance Education, Emergency Response Team, Snowmobile/ATV Instructor, and Boat Patrol.  Nick graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire with an Associates Degree.  He has also worked for the Village of Fairchild as a part-time Officer from 2004 to 2005.

 

Officer Andrew Haldeman – 638

Andrew Haldeman was first employed by the Village of Melrose as a Reserve Officer in July 2006.  He was promoted to a regular Police Officer position in the Village as of June 2007.  Andrew also is employed as a full-time communication/correctional Officer for Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.  Andrew has an Associate Degree in Police Science from Western Wisconsin Technical College.
