Illinois Mustered In Union Army
Cavalry: September 20, 1861, as a private at Camp Butler, Illinois under
Captain Pitcher. During the civil war between the state's,
Ebenezer furnished his own horse. Ebenezer's education often kept him at camp
doing book work. October 15, 1864 Mustered out of the Union Army as a First
Sergeant at Fort Sumner, Springfield, Illinois. Occupation: Ebenezer made
a meek living as a teacher. He believed that everyone needed to be educated.
Most of his children contributed to the educational systems by teaching,
founding & volunteering their manual labor building schools in the places
