Kingston, Oklahoma Married: Elmer Elsworth Dawson January 29, 1891 in Sherman, Texas Susan or
"Susie" was a devout episcopal church member and her husband Elmer
was a Baptist & a Methodist church member during his life. Elmer wouldn't
go to a episcopal church with her. They lived most
of their married lives on the corner of N. Harney & N. E. First Street in
Kingston, Oklahoma. Elmer built their home in the late 1800's. I took
pictures of this home in November 1999. The house is still very well maintained
and people are living in it. Susie's sister, Rettie
married and lived in the neighborhood by her in Kingston. Susie always had
good transportation and lots of family and friends needing a ride. If any one
needed a ride they would call her. Susie's brother, Monroe was all of the
time going out getting drunk and calling her to come to get him. It is a bit
ironic he was run over and killed crossing the street by a drunk.
Susie loved to
play the piano. Her brother-in-law, A. E. Findley, was the band director of
the Kingston school for many years during the big band era. There were many
family members who played musical instruments under his direction. That is
how Elmer Dean got started playing the bugle.
