1st Quarter: Emphasis on Rhythm and Form
Diagnostic assessment
- Rhythm Reading: quarter, eighth, half and whole notes, quarter rests,
sixteenth notes, syncopation and triplets. Rhythm dictation and activities for
developing rhythmic memory and coordination.

3rd Quarter: Emphasis on Music Literacy
- Part work - singing rounds, ostinato accompaniments

- Composition with So, La, Mi, Re and Do
- More rhythm challenges
- Instrumental work with continued focus on music literacy skills
4th Quarter: Emphasis on Music Appreciation
- Identification of instruments by sight, sound and family classification
- Introduction to jazz
- Fun with Folk Dance
