Primary Music NewsMission:Sing, say, dance and play!Have fun and games along the way.Read and write some notes and rests and always, always do my best.KindergartenWe are learning about instruments, practicing our rhythm reading and polishing up our singing voices. Playing the drums is a favorite activity. We are learning to identify the sounds of our classroom percussion instruments and to recognize and name orchestral instruments. We continue to enjoy the music of Peter and the Wolf as we learn about the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, violin, French horn and timpani. First GradeMallet Madness has arrived! We are learning about high and low pitch and melodic direction as we play our Orff instruments. We have particularly enjoyed playing The King of France and adding instruments to the book Mortimer by Robert Munsch. You can visit Robert Munsch's web site (http://robertmunsch.com/)and hear him read his books. In the coming weeks we will be learning to write rhythm patterns and to place notes on the staff. Second GradeSecond graders are excited to be singing songs with two parts. We also are enjoying Mallet Madness activities as we learn to play with alternating hands. We would like to thank Mrs. Lori Henderson (www.drummermom.com) for bringing in her drum set and providing a chance for the children to experience the drums first hand. Our singing continues to improve every week. We are enjoying Sarasponda, Camptown Races and Whacky Do, Re, Mi.
After School Piano Classes (2nd-5th grade)A new series of classes for beginners will begin March 16th.
How to Buy a KeyboardSince after school piano classes have come to Bryson, may I offer the following advice regarding the purchase of a keyboard suitable for use as an instrument for piano lessons. A keyboard suitable for piano study should be equipped with the following: · a minimum of 61 standard, full-size keys · touch sensitivity the harder and faster you press the keys the louder it plays · a damper pedal sustains the sound · a piano stand · an adjustable height piano bench Other very nice features to have if the budget permits: · weighted action This increases the weight and cost of the instrument considerably but makes the touch more like an acoustic piano. · MIDI This will allow you connect the keyboard to a computer. There are many wonderful software programs on the market for learning piano and creating music. Please dont hesitate to call me with questions about keyboards, pianos or software.
