As we usually do, we left
Thursday night and drove about half way to Maryland. That allowed us
to take a leisurely drive to the track on Friday, get set up in the parking
area early for some visiting and a spot near the front of the line to get a
good pit spot Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning, we got set
up in the pits and readied the bike for the first qualifying session.
The bike bogged ever so slightly and that meant I'd be right on the index,
then I double shifted from 2nd to 3rd to 4th (OK, I was a little excited)
and that slowed me way down to a 10.53. On the second pass, I couldn't
have hit the setup any better and ran a 10.12 at 132.22 MPH. As is
usually the case, the fast runs like that never feel all that fast. As
much as I wanted to be closer to the index, I was really pretty happy that
the bike ran that well. A strong run has been very elusive of late!
As we began getting ready for round 3, the rains came. Then it
stopped, started, stopped, started - you get the picture. It finally
did stop Sunday around 10 am but with all the humidity and the threat of
still more rain, the event was cancelled. I ended up qualified 9th,
but had high MPH for the event and won the reaction time contest with a .011
light in round 1.
While at the track, I was
informed, after some inquiry, that there was a Bandit clutch available with
a lock up unit for a price that I could afford. After several
conversations and a quick trip to the ATM machine, I secured the clutch.
With the right setup on this clutch, my starting line problems should be a
thing of the past. I hope to have it in for Bristol, I can't wait to
try it out!
Stay tuned for more!
And THANKS for visiting the
