* Budd's Creek 2005 Race Report *

As we have for years, we left Thursday night and drove about half way to Maryland.  The plan was to take a leisurely drive to the track on Friday, get set up in the parking area early for some visiting and a spot near the front of the line to get a good pit spot Saturday morning.  That all changed when we blew up another motor home tire!  At least it was the back tire this time and we quickly stopped under full control.  I am really glad I have an air shifter on my drag bike, it turns out the air shifter uses the same size line as the air bags on the motor home, which were now also flat as the tread ripped an air line off.  We finally got to the track around 6PM.

On Saturday morning, we got set up in the pits and readied the bike for the first qualifying session.  I was running in ET for test time and made a great SS pass at 10.38 seconds.  Then in SS, I made a great ET pass at 10.58 seconds.  It was going to be a long day....and it was hotter than I'd ever seen it at Budd's Creek with humidity to match.  (I lost 12 pounds over the weekend, all in sweat!)  We ended up qualified in the 12 position.

Sunday morning I ran 2 ET passes wide open (yes 2, I won the first round) and had the bike dialed in right where I wanted her.  First round in SS came soon enough and wouldn't you know, i cut the worst dang light I've cut this season and lost on a double breakout.  Damn the luck.  Well, I've won my share of double break outs as well and believe it or not, actually moved from 4th to third in the points!

Looks like we'll get home in time to watch the NHRA after all.....

Stay tuned for more!

And THANKS for visiting the MAVRIK Racing pages!
