Notes for WILLIAM GEORGE BEEDLE:
The following is from Claire Thomas Beech, neice of William. Uncle Billy was an alcoholic. In the 1930s he owned a Sunoco (really Atlantic) station in(Elrama) the area of West Elizabeth, PA. He was a friendly sort who always waved and shouted a greeting at anyone who passing who honked. One day W.J. Thomas and family drove past and honked and waved at Uncle Billy sitting on the bench in front of the station. Uncle Billy did not acknowledge them, he just sat there. Being a profane man, W. J. gave thorough expression to his anger at being ignored. Later in the day, someone came to where W.J. was visiting to inform the family that Uncle Billy was dead. He had died where he had been sitting, on the bench in front of the gas station. Uncle Billy was married to a woman, name not remembered by Clare Beech, who always ran and hid when anyone came to the house. After speaking to Grace Beedle Burkett (age 86) and reading this story she her said Pap was an alcoholic and was brought to the hospital by his brother John where he died. He disowned Grace because she had married a divorced man (Kennith Ray Burkett). Upon his death bed he called for Grace. He was heard saying he could see the graves of his brothers out the window so he should just go and join him. There is a cemetery next to the hospital where many of his relatives are buried including his parents, grandparents, and some siblings. Pap was an avid reader and many times if he was in a good part of the book when someone came in for gas he would respond by saying, "Get your own damn gas." Appie was of Indian decent and very hard of hearing. Grace stated the reason she might have ran into the other room was to get her false teeth and put them in. They are both buried in the Dravosburg Cemetery in a family plot. Pap started out as a Republican but changed to a Democratic later in life. In 1943 Appie got sick and died of old age. William George AKA Big Willie.
