Commerce is good, Commerce is
good, Commerce is good. I keep telling myself that but we have yet to
have any luck at this track!
Due to the weather Friday
night, we only got 1 test and tune pass. The bike was not performing
and I was scratching my head as it was fast at Dallas and fast here last
year. How could I lose a half second???
We started Saturday morning
assisting Maura Hall from Zipper's Performance in teaching the "Drag Racing
101" school sponsored by Harley Davidson of Lynchburg Virginia and the
Sportsman Racers Association. We had 5 attendees. I had hoped
for 10, but 5 turned out to be a good number to work with. Each got
several passes down the track and the smiles were wide all weekend! We
hope to have an article in SPEED Magazine re-capping the event.
The first 2 qualifying passes
were pitiful, both being in the 10.5 second range. The starting line
was as poorly prepped as I have seen but it was that way for every racer so
it's no excuse. I have worked so hard over the past year and then some
trying to get this beast slowed down to the index and now I couldn't get
fast enough to get there. We finally got a good launch on the third
pass and qualified number 6.
Sunday found the starting line
prep much improved. We guessed at a tire pressure for the first round
and guessed too optimistically and bogged a little coming off the line.
We cut a .414 light and ran hard to the end only to net a 10.56 run and got
caught in the lights for the first round loss, the first time that's
happened in a long time. As a result, we dropped to #8 nationally but
still less than 95 points out of first. We can get there and we will!!
The bike and engine are now
scattered about the garage trying to find the culprit(s). I am hoping
to get all the parts and pieces gathered and assembled in time for Norwalk.
I'd really hate to miss Norwalk as we do pretty well there.
Wish us luck!
Stay tuned for more!
And THANKS for visiting the
