* Greer 2004 Race Report *

The Red Cross race was a little different this year in several ways.  For the first time in several years, they decided to have only one race instead of two, this year it was in August instead of September and I was still trying to figure out the right clutch combination.

The weather was sunny and hot this Friday afternoon.  I was entered in the ET-1 class for bikes 6.50 and faster on a pro tree (4 tenths of a second).  While I did not ever manage to get the clutch just right, I did learn more about it.  The bike ran fairly consistently although somewhat slower than the 6.50 limit.  I didn't mind though as this meant I would always be leaving the line first on the handicapped start.

I was cutting some incredible lights, every one being .020 or less through the rounds.  In the semi-finals, there were three bikes left, that meant a one in 3 shot at the bye run.  I didn't get the bye and for the second year in a row, was eliminated in the semi-finals by virtue of a red light start.  It was OK though because this is a charity race and has an absolutely huge fan following with an estimated 10,000 in attendance!  Not bad for a one evening race.  I'm looking forward to the next one.  This is my favorite race of the year.

Stay tuned for more!
