My bride, now in her last week of
school, could not get the time off work, so I travelled to the Grove with my
good friend Eric Pettit. You will read more about Eric on several of my
other pages. The trip to PA was about 10 hours and it was a little hard on
Eric, but he made it further than he has been in several years. I was
happy about that.
Saturday morning, the rain
continued from Friday night, about 3/4 of an inch in all, but by noon it had
quit and the track staff did an outstanding job prepping the track. I made
the first of two qualifying passes at 4:15 PM was a 10.86! Finally, I was
under the index. A quick plug read at the end of the track indicated the
need for more gas. After a quick jet change, I made my second and final
qualifying pass at 8:00 PM. It felt even faster and i rolled out of the
throttle just past the 1,000' mark and again ran a 10.86! Maybe I should
be running in the ET class!
Sunday brought partly cloudy skies
and 45º for the test and tune session. I made some adjustments to get to
the other side of the index and ran a clean 10.95. Now I was getting
excited. The first round win came with an 11.05 blast, I laid off the
throttle just a little so as not to breakout. The second pass, I caught
the red light in the other lane and cut a horrible .600 light then ran it out
the back door with a 10.94. The third round, I again tried to play the
throttle a little and ended up playing it too much and was eliminated with an
11.14 to 11.16 loss. I wanted to race more, but was satisfied in the
knowledge that the bike would indeed run the number and again finished in the
quarter finals. I maintained my #9 spot nationally and moved up to #8 in
the Eastern division. Man am I looking forward to Norwalk! See you
there.
Stay tuned for more!
And THANKS for visiting the MAVRIK
Racing pages!
