The British burned the 1790 and 1800 Census records of all states during the War of 1812 and only a few pages survive for viewing. The author, a genealogist for more than 30 years, has created a “census” from microfilms of the original Kentucky tax lists for the years 1799 and 1800 for Muhlenberg County. Find early pioneers who “fell through the cracks” in other county and state records and histories.
Although not an all inclusive list of the earliest pioneers in the area, this 1800 “Census” is the best replacement for the lost records. It includes an alphabetic listing of all people taxed for land and personal property owned in Muhlenberg County. Some of the citizens may have been charged a poll tax for voting. Numerous individuals found in this book are not mentioned in county courthouse records. This alone makes the book priceless for those researching early Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. It is a most valuable companion and supplement for the records that do exist. Add it to your home library today!
Price each: $9.95 in US dollars (Kentucky residents add 6% sales tax)
