Michelle Herder, Medieval Historian
Welcome!
I am a historian specializing in the Middle Ages. My research interests center on women, religion, and society in late medieval Catalonia, Spain. My teaching interests are broader, including varied courses on medieval, early modern, and world history. I graduated from Carleton College with a degree in history and a concentration in medieval studies, and went on to graduate school at Yale University, earning an M. Phil. and a Ph.D. under the direction of Paul Freedman. My dissertation was a study of the Benedictine women's monastery of Sant Daniel de Girona. I have since taught at the New College of Florida, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Springfield College.
