MAPA Board Meeting – Sat Oct 4, 2003 – Conference Call ·

Elect), Lori Tuton (legislative chair), Terry Carlisle (PA Commission to BHA),
Jodi Flynn (Treasurer), Cyndi Dancey (SW Region), Mary Lou Stevens (VP), Keely
Cook-Bucher (NW Region), Paul Winter (Immed Past Pres), Laura Snyder (SLU
Student Rep), Dana Sayer-Stanhope (SLU program Director), Kim Brey · Reviewed minutes from July 2003 meeting. Jeff Del Vecchio motioned to accept minutes, Ron McCall second. Approved. ·
Membership
Report and VP Report – Mary Lou Stevens 1) Minnesota State PA group won award from AAPA for
most innovative membership drive. Mary
Lou Stevens plans to contact them to get ideas for MAPA. 2) Contacts with members of Missouri Academy of NPs.
Discussing developing better relationship and having combined meetings. ·
NE Region
report – Keely Cook-Bucher – Working on getting a CME meeting together,
having difficulty getting funds, likely will do in Jan/Feb 2004 ·
SW Region
report – Cyndi Dancey – Had PA meeting last week and working on monthly
meetings and trying to get CME credits for them. ·
Delegates
to AAPA: Nancy Dion unable to
attend. StacyVienhage appointed as
chief delegate. Tracy Fair-Parsons
and Keely Cook-Bucher appointed as
alternate delegates. Discussed that MAPA would pay for the delegate
registration fee and hotel for nights of conference if not paid for by employer.
MAPA would also pay for airfare if only attending the delegate meeting
and not being paid for by employer. Should
be otherwise determined on an individual basis.

Paul
Winter discussed not being able to have winter CME in 2004 in St Louis. ·
PA
Commission to BHA – Terry Carlisle 1) Discussed Swan Ganz catheter issue.
Not finalized but currently leaning toward policy that only physicians
can perform procedure but can delegate to PA 2) Need to appoint new PA to commission 3-year term,
preferably by April 1, 2004 to replace Terry Carlisle and another one in 2005.
Let Ron know of any PA interested in serving on this commission. 3) PA appointed to serve on BHA council for chronic
pain and palliative care – Bill Stanhope ·
Legislative
Report – Lori Tuton 1)
Lori
discussed PA issues with lobbyist firm that assisted anesthesiology assistants.
The group felt there were some conflicts of interest for them to assist
MAPA 2)
Terry
Carlisle met with lobbyist Kim Tuttle who works for same firm as our current
lobbyist John Parris. She had
reviewed our issues and was willing to assist in MAPA efforts from Dec 2003-May
2004 for $10,000. She suggested not
pre-filing bills and attaching our language onto a bill that was moving through. 3)
Terry
also spoke with a democratic lobbyist Mr. Slaymeyer who was interested in
assisting MAPA by talking with key reps/senators during the legislative session.
Not sure what exact cost would be? 4)
John
Parris lobbying contract from Nov. 1, 2003 to Nov 1, 2004 for $16,800. 5)
Anne
Davis from AAPA suggested sending separate postcard mailing to PA’s regarding
PAC fund and MAPA discussed also sending to physician groups who hire PA’s. 6)
Paul
Winter discussed that a large orthopedic group in St Louis that employee 15-20
PA’s was interested in helping PA efforts in Missouri.

Terry
Carlisle discussed that Anne Davis with AAPA is interested in coming to Missouri
in Nov/Dec to discuss with MAPA and lobbyists our legislative efforts for next
session. Exact date/time/location

Lori
Tuton to draft letter to request funding from AAPA. ·
Ron
McCall to discuss CME funds with Steve Berkstressor to assist in MAPA
legislative efforts. ·
NC
Regional Meeting to be held on Sat Mar 13, 2004 in Collinsville, IL.
Paul Winter and Jeff Del Vecchio appointed as MAPA representatives to
attend. ·

by Mary Lou Stevens. Meeting
adjourned. ·
Next
meeting tentatively set for Sat Jan 31, 2004 by conference call. Respectively
