·        Delegates to AAPA:  Nancy Dion unable to attend.  StacyVienhage appointed as chief delegate.  Tracy Fair-Parsons and Keely Cook-Bucher  appointed as alternate delegates.

Discussed that MAPA would pay for the delegate registration fee and hotel for nights of conference if not paid for by employer.  MAPA would also pay for airfare if only attending the delegate meeting and not being paid for by employer.  Should be otherwise determined on an individual basis.

·        Paul Winter discussed not being able to have winter CME in 2004 in St Louis.

·        PA Commission to BHA – Terry Carlisle

2) Need to appoint new PA to commission 3-year term, preferably by April 1, 2004 to replace Terry Carlisle and another one in 2005.  Let Ron know of any PA interested in serving on this commission.

3) PA appointed to serve on BHA council for chronic pain and palliative care – Bill Stanhope

·        Legislative Report – Lori Tuton

1)      Lori discussed PA issues with lobbyist firm that assisted anesthesiology assistants.  The group felt there were some conflicts of interest for them to assist MAPA

2)      Terry Carlisle met with lobbyist Kim Tuttle who works for same firm as our current lobbyist John Parris.  She had reviewed our issues and was willing to assist in MAPA efforts from Dec 2003-May 2004 for $10,000.  She suggested not pre-filing bills and attaching our language onto a bill that was moving through.

3)      Terry also spoke with a democratic lobbyist Mr. Slaymeyer who was interested in assisting MAPA by talking with key reps/senators during the legislative session.  Not sure what exact cost would be?

4)      John Parris lobbying contract from Nov. 1, 2003 to Nov 1, 2004 for $16,800.

5)      Anne Davis from AAPA suggested sending separate postcard mailing to PA’s regarding PAC fund and MAPA discussed also sending to physician groups who hire PA’s.
