Anne and I had
known each other only a few months when we got Allie. We had just bought
a house together in Santa Clara, CA in August 1986 and Anne's dog
Xanadau needed a companion. We dropped by the local humane society office
and while I was filling out some paperwork someone brought Allie in.
They said someone in the car in front of them had thrown her out on the
San Tomas Expressway!
Allie was a wonderful
friend for Xannie. For many years they took care of each other. Xannie
would keep Allie's ears clean and Allie would be sad whenever Xannie was
feeling bad. For the first few years, Allie was very skittish around people.
She would hide behind or under furniture whenever she was confronted by
strangers.
But animals were another thing. Allie is every animals friend, the smaller the better. The cats all walk under her and rub their backs under her chin. She once rescued a turtle and brought it to me for relocation to a safer place. She saved a chipmunk from our cats by barking until I noticed that two of our cats had it trapped on the picnic table. And she once saved a bird that had knocked itself out on a plate glass window by simply standing guard over it until a person came.
Now Allie is the queen mother of the roost and "yells" and Rilian whenever he does something bad (like chase the cats). She loved to go for rides, especially if Classy doesn't get to go. And she's learned to not be afraid of strangers at first site.
Allie has many nicknames: Fuzzbutt, Fuzzenface, Fuzzfoot, Allie-ooper.
