RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR CITIZENS' ACTION
Your help is needed
for a fair tax system in Missouri
WRITE, TELEPHONE, or VISIT your state senator and state representative about the tax issues supported or opposed by MTJ. Discuss these tax issues with the candidates who want to represent you as your state representative and state senator. Ask questions at candidate meetings and public forums!
SEND A LETTER to Governor Matt Blunt and Lt. Governor Peter Kinder.
Ask Missouri's public officials to support a revision of our state tax system to make it more fair and more productive. All Missourians should be asked to pay their fair share, and corporations should be required to pay their fair share as well. (See the Tax Justice for a Healthy Missouri pages for more information about revision of our tax system.)
TALK to your local city officials and your county officials about ending the local sales tax on food. Try to get their commitment of support for the Don't Tax Food! proposal. Ask them NOT TO OPPOSE state legislation for exempting food from local sales tax. Ask for their help in improving the proposal if they object to it. Also discuss with them a proposal for limiting local sales tax rates.
FIND OTHERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY who will act to support or oppose the measures recommended by MTJ. Ask them to contact their legislators.
ENCOURAGE all to support a fairer tax system.

Letters, phone calls, or personal visits with legislators who make decisions that affect our lives are always appropriate --- and are much needed. Unless legislators hear from the people, they cannot adequately represent us!
