Welcome to fifth grade! My name is Mrs. Judy Sutherland, and I have the pleasure of being your teacher for the upcoming school year. We have many exciting learning experiences ahead of us. In order to fascilitate our academic studies, the rules and procedures of our classroom and school will be addressed below. Use this as a handy reference if you have questions about classroom policies.

Caughlin Ranch School-Wide Rules & Procedures

One of the most important lessons education should teach is responsibility and control over one's actions. While it does not appear as a subject in school, it underlines the whole educational structure and assures the education and safety of all students.

  1. Play in designated areas only.
  2. Follow directions of the duty teachers.
  3. Be respectful of others (no profanity)
  4. No contact sports
    1. Football (unless wearing detachable flags)
    2. Piggyback rides
    3. Play wrestling
  5. Swing correctly
    1. Sit on bottom
    2. Swing straight--No side to side
    3. No under dogs or pushing
    4. No jumping out of the swings
  6. No eating/chewing gum on the playground
  7. When the bell rings, quickly line up
  8. Quietly hold sports equipment in line
Lunchroom Rules

  1. Use good manners
  2. Follow traffic patterns
  3. Talk softly
  4. Walk and sit in the lunchroom without disturbing others
  5. Clean your area before being dismissed
  6. Wait to be excused before leaving
  7. Leave all food in the lunchroom

End of Day Procedures

  1. Exit through the wing doors
  2. Go to home or bus quickly
  3. Bus students stay in outer courtyard area
  4. Bus students must pay attention to signs and whistles--you are responsible for getting on your bus

Office Procedures
  1. All visitors to the school, including parent volunteers, must check in at the office and receive a "Visitor's Pass."
  2. Parents taking their child out of school must check the student out at the office before leaving.
  3. Parents must write a note explaining their child's absence.

Citizenship

sad face Failure to do so results in a check on the Conduct Board which will lower weekly behavioral citizenship:

1 check = A-
2 checks = B
3 checks = C
4 checks = D
5 or more checks = F

sad face Detentions are issued at teachers' discretions

sad face One detention equals 3 checks

sad face Playing with items in class will result in a check, and the items played with will be taken away unitl the end of the school year or a parent retrieves it.

sad face Note writing/passing is prohibited. This is considered disruptive behavior.

Classroom Procedures

  • Sharpen penicils, get drinks, and use the bathroom ONLY during independent work time.
  • Classroom assignments are to be written in pencil or erasable pen.
  • Do not bring or use whiteout in the classroom unless given permission.
  • Do not place stickers on your desk.

 

A with a check grpahic Assignment Notebook & Friday Folder

In order to help sutdents with organizational skills, she/he will be given an assignment notebook to keep track of his/her daily assignments.

  • Students are given time everyday to copy down assignments from the classroom assignment board into their book.
  • On Friday, I will review students' assignment notebooks and indicate missing/late assignments. Citizenship grades will be noted.
  • Parents are to sign their name indicating they reviewed the assignment notebook.
  • Students are to return their assignment notebook to school the following Monday.
  • Corrected assignments and office flyers will be sent home Fridays in a "Friday Folder"
  • Friday Folders are returned to school on Monday mornings.

Assignments and Grades

  • Students are to keep assignments in their work folder until collected.
  • Classroom assignments will be collected the following morning.
  • Missing assingments are counted as a 0 when averaged.
  • It is the student's responsibility to turn assingments in on time. Studentes are not allowed to call home and ask parents to bring in work.
  • Late assignments are accepted. Place them in the "Late" Tray. However, late assignments will be dropped one full grade.
  • Teacher will not copy worksheets that students are missing. Students may check the "Extra" tray to possibly find copies of missing worksheets.
  • Missing work lowers weekly academic grades as follows:

    Academic Citizenship Grades
    1 missing=B
    2 missing=C-
    3 missing=F

  • Every late assignment lowers weekly academic grade 1/2 grade.
  • Below are the letter grade/percentages that will be used in our class. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number.

89-87%=B+
86-84%=B
83-80%=B-
 
  79-77%=C+
76-74%=C
73-70%=C-
69-67%=D+
66-64%=D
63-60%=D-
