Mrs. Sutherland's Fifth Grade Supplies

 

 

£ $40 made out to Caughlin Ranch School.  See the below for an itemized accounting of the funds. If you have difficulty paying the full amount, please pay an amount you are comfortable with.

 

£ At least a 1 gigabyte flash drive (also known as a thumb drive or jump drive) for storing & transporting computer work from school to home and vice versa

 

£ Durable expandable file folder (letter size), also known as an accordion folder, with at least 10 pockets to be used as a filing system for notes and assignments.

 

£ 2 red pens for correcting

 

£ Colored markers

 

£ Strong scissors (like Fiskars brand)

 

£ Eraser for white board—an old, clean sock will do!

 

£ Small, hand-held pencil sharpener with a cover  

                                    

The following items will be available to students in the classroom; however, you may want to purchase your own.

£ Colored pencils

 

£ Pencils.  Students using mechanical pencils need to supply their own lead.

 

£  Expo-brand dry erase markers in blue or black) 

 

£ 3” x  3” Post-It Notes

 

£ Yellow highlighter

 

£ Black Sharpie pens—thin and medium.

 

£ Sturdy, transparent, plastic ruler (customary to 1/16” AND metric)

 

Please mark all supplies with the name of your child in permanent marker.  If there is a financial problem obtaining these supplies, let me know.  We can work around it. 


 

Field Trips --Schools must pay the district for the use of the buses

 

·         Crystal Peak—$104 per bus. This trip supports science standards by reinforcing physical properties of matter through mineral identification.  We will apply for the Geological Society of Nevada grant to pay for this field trip; however, there is no guarantee we will receive the money.

 

·         Virginia City—$139 per bus.  $2.00 entrance fee per person for Fourth Ward School Museum and $2.00 per person for Piper’s Opera House. This trip supports science and social studies standards by emphasizing technology used in mining and the prominence of Virginia City in United States and Nevada history. We will apply for the Geological Society of Nevada grant to pay for this field trip; however, there is no guarantee we will receive the money.

 

·         IMAX & Keck Mineral Museum-- $80 per bus.  $4.00 per person.  This program will support science standards.

 

·         Donner Memorial State Park--$185 per bus.  Supports history standards in the area of Westward Expansion.

 

·         Galena Park Naturalist Hike--$104 per bus.  Students learn about riparian and subalpine ecosystems, plant identification, and geology.

 

 

Total expenditure on field trips: 

$620 divided among 24 students= $25.83 per student

 

 

 

The remaining $14.17 will be spent on classroom supplies:

 

·         Time for Kids magazine--$120. Reports on current events in a student friendly manner.  Also, works on reading and writing skills. ($5.00 per student)

 

·         Colonial Day supplies (feathers, corn husks, fabric)--approximately $80

 

·         Art supplies ( i.e. water colors, water color paper, stationary, brushes, yarn) --

     approximately $100

 

·         Miscellaneous supplies (i.e. book club books, science supplies, recess equipment)-- approximately $100

 

 

Anticipated expenditures on classroom supplies:

$400 divided among 24 students=$16.66
