My name is Tisha. Our story starts in June when I (mom) developed my first boil on my knee. I was doing Girl Scout camp and thought that I had gotten bitten by something, or it was an ingrown hair. That one healed on its own after it drained. In August I got another boil this time on my stomach. I went to the doctor and was put on antibiotics.![]()
My then 18 month old son got a boil on his bottom the end of September. I knew when I saw it what it was, and took him to the doctor immediately. He was put on antibiotic and it cleared.
My husband got his first boil the beginning of November, right below his belt line, doctor said it was an ingrown hair, put him on antibiotic and it drained and cleared.
While I was changing my now, 21 month old son, I see the all to familiar looking pimple thingy and take him to the doctor. Yep the beginning of a boil, they called it Cellulitis this time. By Thursday it covered his whole cheek. He could not sit. He started running a fever, by the time I took him to the hospital it was 104.3! They took lots of blood to do tests, and gave him an IV with fluids and antibiotic. They then transferred us to the Children's Hospital in St. Louis. There they drained the abscess and sent us home. He has a huge hole in his diaper area which I must keep covered and clean as possible. (Should i clean his wound with peroxide?)
The ER doctor suggested the family bath in 1/4 c bleach to bath tub of water.
We've been bleaching everything in the house for the last 2 days. Lysoling everything that can't be wiped with bleach.
I am currently waiting on blood test and culture test and am almost certain we have the MRSA in my house. Baby goes back to the doctor on Monday. I am going to request a specialist.
Any tips on what to do would be helpful.
The ER nurse never called me, so I called her for a follow-up on the culture they took at the hospital when they drained my son's boil. I am very upset that the doctor/lab has lost the culture! I told her well they better find it. She informed me it probably isn't the MRSA infection I have been hearing about on the news. I informed her now we won't know because you guys lost the culture! How can you know, what he has if you lose the test! You can't know anymore then I do if you lose the culture. I get a phone call from the doctor who was on call she apologized, said she took it but, not sure where it went. I am pissed!
My son seems to be doing better, besides the big hole he has in his bottom from where they lanced/drained the boil. Being so young, every wet/dirty diaper its off to the bath tub to do sitz baths. He can now sit down on his bottom, his fever has broke, and he is back to toddling around the house.
We are having a hard time getting him to take his Sulfamethoxazole. I've tried hiding it in his baba's, even chocolate milk doesn't help. Tried putting it in apple sauce, oatmeal, chocolate milk, juice. Had to go to the old fashion way of shoving it down his throat twice a day. Daddy holds him I shove it in. He spits up some of it but, I guess he is getting some of it. The doctor called me in another script because of all the wasted dosages. My insurance wouldn't cover it because the bottle said 7 days and they don't understand why I don't have all the dosages left. This time I had it flavored with cherry. He hates it too.
