The MSHS girls are 6-time U.P. State Champions, are undefeated in their home pool over the last 7 seasons and finished the 2006-07 regular season 14-0. Our boys are the 2007 U.P. State Champions and have won 15 of the last 17 titles, they finished the 2006-07 regular season 14-0.

Sports Illustrated Magazine named Marquette Senior High School the No. 1 school in Michigan for athletics and cited the swim team's success as one factor.

Our boys and girls swim and train together. There were 69 athletes on our roster in 2007: 35 women and 34 men. Eight of those athletes are springboard divers. The team grade point average last season was 3.35 (on 4.0 scale).

Special Note: Our program survives on private funds. Thanks to the generosity of parents, the MAPS Booster Club and the community we have been able to purchase for our athletes: a team computer, flowers for Senior Recognition, medals and all other costs to host the JV meet, swim caps, diver's "Sammys" (drying towels), banquet awards, nutritional food for our athletes at the championship meet, and in February 2006, a new 6-line, alphanumeric scoreboard. In November 2006 we installed a brand new record board in the pool, courtesy of the MAPS Booster Club. We also use these funds to pay most of the costs associated with running the MSHS Invitational each January and for maintenance of the electronic timing system.

We raise funds two ways. The first is completely pain-free: save receipts from Econo Foods. Through their "We Share" program, Econo donates a percentage of sales for all receipts we return to the store. Please collect as many as possible from friends and family and give them to a coach or to swim parent Jackie Gallagher. We also bag groceries for tips at Econo one Saturday in January. We've raised over $2,000 doing this and used the money for the new scoreboard.

We appreciate private donations in any amount to help us continue what we believe is an outstanding program for high school athletes. Donations can be made to the MSHS Swim Team Fund.

We are extremely grateful to the MSHS Booster Club for financial support exceeding $5,000 in the last three seasons. We encourage all parents to join. The cost is $10 and 50% of your membership fee comes back to the team. New to the Booster Club this year: Each team must have 20 parent members to qualify for Booster Club financial support.
