Eclipse! We are on a ridge at about 16,000 feet with the Sun above the mountain. Two other observers are low in front of me. The summit glacier is easily seen by the light of the corona but much of the rest of the foreground detail visible in the slide is lost in this scan (I'm going to try to get a better digital image). Thin high clouds covered the region -- very unexpected for this very dry area that time of year -- but you can see that the Sun was hardly obscured at all except for some of the outer corona. In fact, the thin clouds added to the whole scene by making the shadow more visible in the sky. Above the Sun to the right is either Jupiter or Venus (I believe it is Jupiter but I don't recall for sure -- someone help me out here).
