18th Annual WATERLOO CANOE RACE

Entry fee is $30.00 for pre-registered, $35.00 morning of the race.
Entry fee includes two famous Waterloo Canoe Race T-Shirts to the first 75 registered canoes.
Each participant will be entered in a drawing for a FREE CANOE!

Entrants under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Life Jackets Required.

Entrants under 18 years of age must have a parental signature.

Official Rules

1. Contestants will participate in teams of two (2) persons per canoe.

2. All entrants will be subject to inspection, at any time, by representatives of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the members of the sponsoring organization. EACH CANOE MUST HAVE TWO (2) COAST GUARD APPROVED LIFE JACKETS AND A BAILING DEVICEI .Participants under 15 years of age must wear life jackets.

3. Hull specifications will be based on USCA rules and Midwest Canoe Association classes and specifications. Most commercially manufactured canoes will meet these specifications.

4. DIVISION RULES:

a. ALUMINUM DIVISION: Recreational canoes, maximum 18' in length.

b. FIBERGLASS DIVISION: Fiberglass and Royalex canoes, maximum 18' in length.

c. MIXED DIVISION: Teams must consist of one male and one female.

d. JUNIOR COMBINED: One contestant is an adult (aged 21 years or over) and the other a youth (aged 14 years or under).

e. MASTERS DIVISION: Both contestants' ages must total at least 75 years.

f.   NOVICE DIVISION: Neither contestant has ever placed in a canoe race.

g. TEEN DIVISION: Both contestants will be between the ages of 15 and 19 years old.

h. WOMEN'S DIVISION: Both contestants must be women.

i.   FIREFIGHTERS DIVISION: One contestant on the team must be. a current member of a fire department

j.    RACING DIVISION: All racing canoes MUST compete in the racing division.

k. Media Division: One contestant must be a current media outlet employee

l.    5. Tipping, dumping, ramming, and willful recklessness will. disqualify participants from any and all awards and prizes.

6. Only single-bladed paddles will be used. No limit on size.

7. Awards, prizes, and canoe drawing will be held at 1:30 PM the day of the race. MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN CANOE!

8. Recreational canoes weighing under 55 pounds must have weight added. This will be the responsibility of the participant.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION;

DISTANCE: Six miles-from Elkhorn Crossing to the Maple Street Bridge.

CHECK-IN: 8:00-9:30 at the Waterloo Fire Station at 4"' and North Front Street. Pre-registered entrants must check-in to get a canoe number and to enter drawings. Race starts at 10:00 AM.

TRANSPORTATION: Will be available BEFORE the race for anyone needing to take their vehicle to the finish line and ride back to the start before the race. LAST RIDE WILL LEAVE THE FINISH LINE AT 9:30 AM

AVERAGE TIME: 1 hour, 15 minutes.

FREE CANOE!!: A canoe will be given away by a drawing from all race entrants at the end of the Awards presentation, following the race, at the Waterloo Fire Station. Trophies and other prizes will be given away at this time, as well. MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN CANOE AND ALL OTHER PRIZES!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Available at the Waterloo Fire Station the morning of the race.
