- The funds raised by CROPWALK are used by Church World Service to provide disaster relief, refugee assistance and self-help development
programs in over eighty countries throughout the world. Church World Service recognizes that for projects to be successful, programs
must come from the people themselves, not imposed by others. Church World Service supports local partner agencies that share the vision
of empowering self-help.
- Response in Afghanistan
A women's income generation program in Kabul is providing jobs for 1,600 widows and other female heads of household. This is allowing
Afghan women to support themselves. Each woman prepares 16 quilts per month. They are paid $1 for each quilt that they produce. These
quilts will be distributed to hospitals, clinics and displaced persons in Afghanistan.
- Response to Drought in Ethiopia
Although the situation has improved since last year, Ethiopia continues to face significant food shortage due to poor rainfall. Programs
are in place to provide seeds, hand tools, restocking of animals and increase access to water.
- Response to Central Texas Flooding
Residents in Central Texas are in the process of a massive clean up effort following a record breaking rainfall and flooding. CWS is
coordinating efforts to provide long term assistance to those affected by this disaster.
