I went to see Two Towers with my mom today. I enjoyed the movie a great deal!

I haven't made a desktop theme in a long time but I will be doing one very soon. Bet ya can't guess of what!

For those of you just joining us I have not read the Lord of the Rings novels. It's something I plan to do the day after I see Return of the King. Having said that I will now tell you what I thought of the second installment from the trilogy. A review of Two Towers is to follow. It may contain spoilers.

The movie starts with a flashback of the scene from the first movie that made me cry, the Bridge at Khazad-Dum. Gandalf saying, "You shall not pass" puts a lump in my throat. The scene is just as powerful the second time as it was the first.

The movie is basically divided into the major sections, Frodo/Sam, Merry/Pippin, and Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli. You jump back and forth from group to group, but oddly the group that most interested me was the latter. The play between Legolas and Gimli had me laughing out loud.
Gimli: I can't see! What's going on?
Legolas: Would you like me to describe it to you? Or shall I fetch you a box?

The bond of friendship between these three has grown and they can almost guess what the other will do. Merry and Pippin have much more serious roles in this one and they prove what Galadriel said about, "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." Sam, as in the last one, is hope itself. Each group meets somebody new and we are introduced to more of Tolkien's world. In my opinion the Ents would be the coolest of the new races that we meet.

The Nazgul have new mounts, as do the orcs. The number of Uruk-hai is staggering... The battle last almost an hour. You're on the edge of your seat the entire time.

Anybody want to go next weekend?

The review of Fellowship of the Rings can be found in the January 5th entry.
