You were fantastic

It seems the Beeb or at least BBCA is the thing to watch this summer. Earlier this week they started a new show called HEX and on Saturdays they are showing the Sharpe's movies.

HEX is the story of a young lady, Cassie, at a British boarding school who discovers she has magical powers and a mysterious link to the past. I've only seen one episode but it was enough to make me want to tune in next week.

As for Sharpe...I've seen one or two of the movies in the past but not the entire run in order so this is nice. Sean as always looks rugged and dashing. While checking to see if Sean had managed to work a "sharp" reference into all his movies I discovered that according to answers.com Sean, "Was not the first choice for the role of Richard Sharpe in the Sharpe series; he stepped in when an accident prevented actor Paul McGann from taking the part."

(How's that for a segue!)
Last night Scifi aired the new season one finale of Dr. Who. I must say that I really enjoyed the season. It's been a very long time since I'd seen any Dr. Who. In an interview with the BBC Christopher mentioned that he knew he wouldn't replace anyone's favorite doctor but he hoped he would become it for those new to the series. I grew up watching Tom Baker and Peter Davison with Tom being my favorite, but I must say that without seeing Christopher in anything before this he very quickly won me over and might now be my favorite. Being little I recall how amusing Tom's crazy long scarf was and how he saved the day no matter what.

(Spoilers! Spoilers! Look away now!)

Now as an adult I see more subtle things like the set of a jaw when the Daleks are told "NO!" or the look of peace when Rose is sent to safety in the Tardis. From about The Doctor Dances on you could clearly see that the Doctor was very concerned for Rose. Were they romantic feelings or just those of friendship? We might never know for sure...but I think it was the first.

In a very touching scene Christopher's Doctor sacrifices himself to save Rose and is replaced by David Tennant as the 10th Doctor. Farewell Christopher, "you were fantastic, absolutely fantastic."
