7/7/07

A big day for the Earth and for couples getting married. An article in the Washington Post has 38,000 people registered at The Knot.com for weddings today. I'm just home from one myself. Linda, a friend since grade school, and Todd both looked gorgeous. It was a lovely ceremony that included the pouring of sand into a jar with their children from previous relationships to symbolize them merging as one family.

Todd was a nervous wreck the entire time while Linda smiled and hammed it up. It was a night of family, food, and fun. The DJ was pretty cute too.

Meanwhile around the world Live Earth was rocking seven continents with music that went up to 11! There was even a band, Nanutuk, made up of Scientist in Antarctica. Joey Yung who performed in China has a lovely voice, Akaya’s music from the sets in Japan had a good beat and Spinal Tap had a jam session with most of the people at the UK stage.

I think some of the videos aired between artists were a little over the top but all in all I think it was for a good cause.

Also on the World front the new Seven Wonders of the World were revealed today. They are: Brazil's Statue of Christ Redeemer, Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid, Peru's Machu Picchu, Jordan's Petra, the Great Wall of China, the Colosseum in Rome and India's Taj Mahal.

Unknown sender

Shortly after my birthday back in May I received House of Shards by Walter Jon Williams from a store in Florida. There was no card, note, or packing slip so I have no clue who sent it. I emailed the usual suspects but nobody has fessed up. A mystery!

So, just in case I guessed wrong or the sender wishes to remain anonymous I'll say it here, thank you. I've added it to my stack of books to read and will let you all know what I think at a later date.
