Lions
require a sturdy end to play the right side and help stop the run. |
Letting
Shawne Merriman slide to #17 (Cinci) is 1 mistake. I don't see much I like
from this draft, but the angst-filled opening over what Cleveland should do
with their #3 was interesting. |

Johnson as one of the top players in the draft, others see him slipping

These
video game mavens are right. However, if Merriman is still there at #10, and
Dallas has their hears set on DJ or Merriman, Matt might be willing to give
the Cowboy brains a chance to pick their player, for a reasonable sum ... ala

It's a shame
they have Boss Bailey and Teddy Lehman, because Derrick Johnson would look
nice here too. But that's okay, because with the size they would now boast on
their D-Line with Big Daddy Wilkinson and Rogers along with Spears and then
Hall coming off the edge their puny linebackers won't have to worry as much
about getting flattened by lineman. |
Hey, whose
calling my LB's puny? You don't pass over a guy like DJ just because you have
a couple young guys already. Teddy goes inside and DJ takes the weak wing. But
I still like Merriman better for value and for the Lions' needs. |

Now time
to work on the defense! |
I think
Shawne Merriman, Derrick Johnson and Antrel Rolle are all safer picks, with Merriman
my choice. |

A monster
on the offensive line, this helps pave the way for Kevin Jones and give Harrington
(or Garcia) time in the pocket to find Roy Williams. |
Whatever. Merriman
makes me merry. |

Miller, Virginia |
No more
excuses for the Lions this season. They have drafted a quarterback, running
back and a pair of wide receivers in the first round in the last three years.
Stephen Alexander is a nice tight end but he goes through bouts of
inconsistency and has a past that is injury plagued. Getting a Heath Miller
in the fold along with a healthy season from Carlos Rogers could make people
forget about the past when it comes to Joey Harrington. |
Where
would I begin on this one. Suffice it to say, hell freezing over would be
closer projection. |

I
understand those who get into the homer line of thinking, but I just don't
agree. |

He says
later that next to Williamson, Merriman is probably the hottest prospect
right now. So, I don't know if he's just revised parts of the draft since
February. Merriman rises to #10, perhaps, in his next full revision. |

LB |
Derrick
Johnson, |
The Lions have
drafted four offensive players with their last four first round picks. Matt
Millen knows it's time to go defense, and Johnson gives them a great athlete
who should make a difference right away on a defense that was +12 in
turnovers over halfway through the season. (Also considering- Ahmad Brooks,
Corey Webster) |
