My
Expectations
|
- The Lions are finally in a position to take BPA (Best Player Available). They will be looking for value at #10 more than need and may make trades in the 2nd & 3rd round to get more picks, if possible.
FS, DE & OT are their primary needs.
- Secondary needs are at #3 QB, #3 WR, depth OL, DL, FB.
- It would be nice if the needs combined with the value, but the only value at
a need position is Shawne Merriman (who I feel is a
top 10 pick). Lions will hope for Merriman or Derrick Johnson (also a top 10
pick) to be there at #10. I could actually see Millen trying to make a move
up to get one of these two guys.
- On the other hand, if the defensive talent
is exhausted by #10, and one of the offensive talents projected to be top 10
is available, then a trade down ... of course ... becomes more probable.
- Otherwise, David Pollack, Erasmus James, Alex Barron, Antrel Rolle, & Carlos Rogers would all be able
to contribute right away, which is what you want from a 1st rounder, and would not be major reaches at #10.
- Marcus Spears may be worth the #10 pick for some teams, but IMO the Lions are looking for a rush DE and Spears in the 4-3 D would be more of an anchor type DE behind whom you line up a rush style LB.
