Installing the NSI Aero Subaru Engine
The NSI Aero engine finally arrived! The installation so far has gone very well. My engine dyno'd out at nearly 220 HP, and with the constant speed propeller, it will be quite a performer!
Here I am laying out the firewall sheet metal. Included in the engine installation package is a full sized template of the firewall. All of the pass through holes for the electrical and plumbing are clearly marked.
Here I am drilling the many holes in the stainless steel firewall sheet metal.
The NSI instrument package is quite complete. All gauges needed to monitor engine functions are supplied. All engine temperatures, fuel pressures, voltages, fuel flow, RPM's, and fuel levels are clearly displayed on the supplied panel. At this point I am not sure how much of this I will use as most of this functionality may be included in the glass panel all electronic instrument display I am hoping to some day install.
Here is the bare firewall after it was fit to the fuselage.
Installing the engine onto the firewall too about an hour all by myself. I simply hoisted it up with a come-along and easily attached the 7 engine frame to fuselage bolts.
Here you can see the thermal insulating firewall blanket. The openings for the electrical and plumbing connections have been cut to allow their installation later on.
