To Do List -

03/14/2010

Light rain.  40F.  Let the games begin!  Getting ahead of myself despite the weather.  Took several of the tarps off, and dropped off some gear in preparation for Spring commissioning.  The homemade winter cover seemed to have held up just fine.  Had hoped to do more, but the weather closed in.  At least it wasn't snow!

Sunny.  72F!  Removed the rest of the Winter cover.  Disassembled the frame which held up the tarps.  Re-rigged the stanchions and lifelines.  Made good progress on scraping and sanding the bottom.  The job was made easier using a Chicago Electric variable speed sander equipped with 60 grit discs. Treated the pin-hole rust spots on the keel with two coats of Pettit RustLoc.

Sunny.  80F!  Finished sanding the bottom.  Painted most of the bottom with West Marine PCA Gold ablative; a few spots remain for touch up along with under the stands.  Compounded and polished the port side and forward half of the starboard side hull from waterline to rub rail using 3M Marine Restorer and Wax (# 09012).  Used a variable speed buffer equipped with a 3M 05703 Superbuff Polishing Pad.  Switched to a 3M 05705 Superbuff III Polishing Pad and next waxed the port side hull using Collinite's # 885 Fleetwax.

Occasional rain showers.  50F.   Cleaned up the V-berth and cabin.  Brought most of the large cushions onboard.  Cleaned the port stern quarter water line and hull stains using Marykate On&Off gel.  Touched up the boot stripe with Interlux Brightside black polyurethane paint.  Compounded and polished the starboard side hull to finish the job started a few weeks ago.  Faired several hull imperfections below the waterline with Marine-Tex epoxy filler.

Sunny.  68F.   Brendan helped me get the outboard over to and mounted on the boat.  It was a good idea to bring the outboard stand along to make the job a bit easier.  We also brought over the main and 120, sail covers, life preservers, and  Life Sling to store on-board.

Sunny.  80F.   Finished sanding and painting the bottom.  Touched up a few spots on the keel with Pettit RustLoc prior to finishing the bottom.  Connected the engine start cables.  Brought home the painting supplies and cleaned up under the boat.  Almost ready to go.

05/01/2010 [aboard Water Music]

Sunny.  80F.   Spot sanded the bottom using a Chicago Electric variable speed sander equipped with 50 grit discs.  A gentle touch was key.  Installed zincs on the prop shaft.  Faired two seacocks using Marine-Tex.  Cathy will finish sanding these spots later.  Taped at waterline; ready to apply bottom paint.  Installed replacement Pyle speakers in the cockpit.  Need to troubleshoot the port side speaker wiring.  Enlarged the VHF opening for a new Matrix GX2100 VHF radio/AIS receiver combination from Standard Horizon.  Need DC connectors to finish installation.  Cathy has to decide how she wants to hook up GPS to unit.

Partly sunny.  55F.  Sheila and I brought the rest of the summer gear over to the boat including the boom.  We also took home a few things that saw little or no use last season.  Rigged a temporary backstay to make the boat launch ready.  Brought the ladder home from the boatyard.  She is ready for launch.

Sunny.  85F.  Sheila and I went to the marina with the intention of moving the boat to the mooring.  The motor would not rev beyond idle and acted as if fuel starved.  Took the carburetor home.  Tightened the standing rigging.  Cleaned the entire cabin.  Flushed and filled the water tank.  Tore the carburetor down at home; the main jet was clogged with and the lower bowl contained some waxy verdigris-like deposits.  These did not readily dissolve in carburetor cleaner.  Noticed that the internal acceleration circuit choke valve was missing.  May have been blasted across the workshop with spray cleaner!   Will order the part.  Re-assembled the unit.

06/05/2010

Sunny.  90F.  Re-installed the Raymarine M45 VHF radio in Crab Louie .  The West Marine VHF 650 has class D DSC; the MMSI number will be transferred to Gryphon IV.  Installed the carburetor; motor started right up but does not advance quickly.  Missing acceleration circuit choke valve on order which should resolve problem.  Sheila cleaned the topsides with Simple Green.

06/15/2010

Sunny.  75F.  Brought 150 headsail to boat.  Installed replacement acceleration circuit choke valve in carburetor bowl.  Outboard now starts up and accelerates properly.  Rigged the 120 headsail, sheets, furling line and ATN sleeve clover.  Cleaned cabin interior.

06/21/2010

Sunny.  80F.  Installed a new set of plugs in the Yamaha T9.9.
