BD-4

Scott DeGaynor's N348ST built by Steve Takas. Very nice.

This homebuilt aircraft has become something of an obsession for the last year or two. There are many facets to the project and I can see it keeping me occupied for years!

Design Notes

These were a series of advertisements Bede put out in the early 70's.
They show something of what Jim was thinking when he dreamed the BD-4 up.
Click here for the Design Notes.

Airfoil

This is the airfoil Jim Bede used for the BD-4 and the Yankee.

On the real wing there is not quite so much camber in the rear due to the aileron/flap construction.
I think that the Sonex is using this one too, although the chord
may be different. It also goes very fast for the load and horsepower.

Bill of Materials

This is the bill of materials that was published in "The Book."
If anyone wants to work up an Excel spreadsheet I would be happy to post it.
I can't swear this is completely accurate.
Click here for the bill of materials.

Hex Number Call Outs

These are the "hex" call outs on the plans. They provide a cross referece to
the bill of materials.
Again, I can't swear this is accurate.
Click here for the hex numbers.

This is a drawing for one of the 4 new belcranks. These are used to replace the cables and pulleys in the aileron system. The center gets a belcrank bearing. I've got something similar for the rudder belcrank.
