Nebraska Elks to Hold State Convention
The 92nd annual state convention of the Nebraska Elks Association will be held
April 30th through May 2nd at the Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte.
The convention will be lead by President Dale Nielson of the Grand Island Elks
Lodge. Nielson will preside at the Saturday and Sunday meetings and will
host a Friday evening dinner for the members of his officer team, state
committee chairs, Nebraska Lodge Exalted Rulers, and national Elks dignitaries
and their spouses.
During the day Friday, twenty-three Nebraska Elk Lodges have been invited to
compete in the annual Elks Ritual Contest. The winning team of officers
will represent Nebraska at the Grand Lodge Convention to be held in Minneapolis beginning
July 4th of this year.
Other activities to be held Friday include a meeting by the state trustees
and also the state Elks Advisory Committee. They will review budget
requests, nominations for state officers, and possible state constitution
updates.
At the Saturday morning meeting, the state officers and committee chairpersons
will give their annual reports to the membership and a business session will be
held. On Saturday afternoon the association will hold its annual PER
Scholarship Auction in which Lodges and members voluntarily contributed items to
be auctioned so that money can be raised for the PER Scholarship Fund.
After a late afternoon reception for Richard Metz, president -elect of the Omaha
Elks Lodge, a general banquet and awards ceremony will be held. Awards
will be made to the winning Ritual Team, the state Elk and Officer of the Year,
Veterans Service Awards, the Nebraska Lodges of the Year, and numerous other
awards. In addition the top Nebraska selections for the "Most
Valuable Student" scholarships will be introduced to the membership.
On Sunday morning the business session will continue and elections for new
officers will be held. At 10 a.m. the Elks Memorial Service will be held
and the public is invited to join the Elks in honoring and remembering their
departed state presidents and Exalted Rulers. At 11 a.m. the newly elected
officers will be installed and tributes paid to outgoing officers. After
this session the convention will be closed.
