Nebraska Hoop Shooters Capture Four Second Place Awards at the Denver Regional Competition

No! The ball didn't bounce right for the Nebraska Elks Association Hoop Shooters at the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot held in Denver on Saturday, March 5th. Ask Rylee Reinertson of Gibbon who was shooting for the Kearney Elks Lodge. Rylee made 23 of his 25 foul shots, but it wasn't good enough for the overall 8-9 yr old boys championship and a trip to Springfield for the Elks National Finals.

Rylee, a 3rd grader at the Gibbon Public School, finished in a first place tie with Brandon Book of Swink, Co, representing the La Junta Elks Lodge. A playoff was necessary--five more shots, and then five more, and again five more. Rylee and Brandon made their first five shots; and then they made their second five shots. Rylee shot first in the third playoff and missed two shots, Brandon made all five to capture the crown and to push Rylee to second place.

Other 2nd place finishers for Nebraska were Jade Cunningham of Laurel who was shooting for the Norfolk Elks Lodge in the 10-11 yr old girls division. Jade is a fifth grader at the Laurel-Concord School and the daughter of Toby and Patti Cunningham.

Alyssa Stankoski of Genoa and shooting for the Columbus Elks Lodge captured her second place award in the 12-13 yr old girls division. Alyssa, a two-time state champion, is an 8th grader at the Twin River Public School. Her parents are Dan and Kelli Stankoski.

Austin Anderson of Grand Island shooting for the Grand Island Elks Lodge also captured a second place award in the boys 10-11 yr old competition. Austin is a 4th grader at the Cedar Hollow School and his parents are Tammie and Bill Anderson.

Two other Nebraska shooters finished in fourth place. Danea' Ray of Chadron and shooting for the Chadron Elks Lodge shot in the Girls 8-9 yr old competition. Danea' is a third grader at the East Ward Elementary and her parents are Ross and Dawn Ray.

Josh Reinertson, the older brother of Rylee and a four time state champion shooting in the boys 12-13 yr old competition finished fourth. Josh is a 7th grader at the Gibbon Public School and his parents are Paul and Carolyn Reinertson.
