Elks National Foundation Approves 2004-05 Grants and Appropriations
CHICAGO, Illinois-- At a late February meeting in Tampa, Florida, the ENF Board
of Trustees approved appropriations and distributions for the 2004-05 fiscal
year totaling $13,172, 503.
Program Related Grants and Appropriations:
The "Most Valuable Student" Scholarship Program was designated $2.216
million for 500 four year scholarships for the 2005-06 through 2008-09 academic
years. Applications will be available after September 15, 2004, from
Nebraska Elk Lodges, www.elks.org, or by
sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Elks National Foundation.
The filing deadline at a Nebraska Elks Lodge is January 7, 2005. Awards
will be announced by the state association prior to the annual state conference
and winners at the national level will be announced by May 15, 2005.
$350,000 was reserved for "Emergency Educational Fund" Grants for one
year educational grants to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks.
Grants are renewable up to three times. Applicants must be unmarried and
under the age of 23. Applications are available at Nebraska Elks Lodges or
by writing the Foundation.
$500,000 was designated for 500 one-year, $1000 merit-based ENF Legacy Awards
for the children and grandchildren of Elks who have been members in good
standing for at least two years. Applications will be available after
August 1, 2004, from your Nebraska Elks Lodge, at www.elks.org
or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Foundation. The
filing deadline is January 7, 2005. Awards will be announced in April,
2005.
$48,000 was allocated in four year scholarship for both eight Eagle Scouts and
eight Gold Girl Scouts. Applications for these scholarships are available
through the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Boy Scout winners will be
announced in June, 2005, and Girls Scout winners in May, 2005. If your
scout leader does not have the applications, please have him/her check with the
District Office.
The ENF Trustees allotted $173,940 in order to manage these five
scholarship programs
National BPO Elks Programs:
The Elks National Home was granted $315,000 to help fund the Order's retirement
facility in Bedford, Va.
The Elks Drug Awareness Program was appropriated $547,000 to completely fund the
Elks Drug Awareness Program, including printing and shipping of millions of
pieces of educational literature.
The Elks National "Hoop Shoot" Free Throw Program was granted $614,125
to fund the Elks national free throw program, the nation's largest non-commercial
coed sporting activity.
The Youth Activities Committee was granted $50,000 to promote the Elks Soccer
Shoot program at the grassroots level.
$749,900 was appropriated to help fund the Order's Veterans Service Program that
provides aid and comfort for America's hospitalized veterans.
The Elks Veterans Memorial Building was granted $502,560 to maintain the
Memorial in Chicago. Another $250,000 was allocated for major
renovation projects to the Memorial Building.
$3.072 million was granted to the state Elks associations to help fund each
state's major charitable projects, which include aid for people with
disabilities, cancer research, children's hospitals, youth camps and providing
safe havens for abused families. Portions of these grants will also help
fund state Soccer Shoot, Hoop Shoot, and Drug Awareness Programs. Special
Project Grants for state Elks associations was allotted $2,287,248 to help fund
scholarship programs or other projects that will best extend a state's
philanthropic outreach.
In their final business, the ENF Trustees appropriated $1,439,130 to help fund
the day to day operations of the Foundation's Chicago office.
