ENF Announces 2005 Legacy Awards Contest

Chicago, Illinois--Applications are now available for the Elks National Foundation's (ENF) 2005 Legacy Awards Scholarship Contest.  The  ENF will award up to 500 one-year $1,000. scholarships to children or grandchildren of active Elks in good standing.

The Legacy Awards contest is one of two ENF scholarship programs that exclusively benefit Elks families.  Since the program's inception in 1998, the Elks National Foundation has awarded $1,822,333. to help hundreds of students from Elk families to attend college with less financial strain on their parents.

"Michigan State is my dream school, but I was initially worried about not being able to manage the tuition," says Emily Tong, a 2004 Legacy Award recipient.  "With your scholarship, I'm proud to say that I am able to pay for my entire first year without any loans or financial help from my parents. Thank  you very much for making my dreams come true."

Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2002, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2002, is eligible to apply.  The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2005.  Great-grandchildren are not eligible, nor are the children or grandchildren of deceased Elks.

Applicants must be high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited U.S. college or university, and will take the SAT or ACT by December 31 of their senior year.  The Selection Committee will judge applicants based on how well they exhibit the core values of the Elks National Foundation:  knowledge, charity, community, and integrity.

Applicatons are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars; by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Elks National Foundation; or at Nebraska Elks Lodges.  Students need to mail their applications to the Elks National Foundation's Chicago office no later than January 14.

The Foundation will announce the winners on April 30, 2005.
