Nebraska Elks Association Sponsors Americanism Essay Contest
The Nebraska Elks Association will again be sponsoring the annual Elks
Americanism Essay Contest this year. The contest is open to all 5th,
6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
This year's theme is, "What 'Old Glory' Means to Me."
Essay length is not to exceed 200 typed or legibly printed words. They
must be in ink. On the cover sheet each participant must be identified by their
name, address, grade, social security number, school attending, parent's names,
and sponsoring Elks Lodge (the Lodge you are submitting your entry to).
Essays must be submitted for judging to the Elks Lodge nearest to the address of
the participant and must be postmarked on or before January 15, 2005.
Local Lodges may offer prizes, but please check with the Elks Lodge Americanism
or Youth Chair at the Lodge you are submitting your essay to for this
information. All entries will be judged in two divisions, the 5th and 6th
grade division and the 7th and 8th grade division.
The top three entries in each division at each Lodge will be submitted for
further state judging The state prizes will be Savings Bonds--$200
for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place. Winners at the
state level will be forwarded to the Grand Lodge of Elks for national judging.
