Nebraska MVS Scholarship Winners Selected

The Nebraska Elks Association has completed the judging for the Elks "Most Valuable Student" Scholarship Program. The top five students will receive small awards and have their portfolios forwarded to the Grand Lodge of Elks for further judging and awards. Each student will receive a minimum of $1000 a year for four years from the Elks National Foundation. The following is a list of these students, the amount they will receive from the Nebraska Elks Association, their home towns, and their sponsoring Elks Lodge:

1st Place Girl-Kelly J. Moyer ($500) Dubois, Falls City Elks Lodge 1st Place Boy-Eric S. Hald ($500) Holdrege, Holdrege Elks Lodge 2nd Place Girl-Teresa E. Dwyer ($400), Hastings, Hastings Elks 2nd Place Boy-Joshua M. Dean, ($400), Broadwater, Scottsbluff Elks 5th Place-Jon P. DeMuth, ($300), Creighton, Norfolk Elks Lodge

All the following are "At-Large" winners and will receive one-time grants of $800.

A third group of selectees were "District" winners. First place winners here will receive one-time grants for $375 while second place winners will get one-time grants for $275.

West District winners are the following: 1st Place girl- Janae A. Harris, Wauneta, McCook Elks Lodge 1st Place boy-Austin J. Brockmeier, Cozad, Cozad Elks Lodge 2nd Place girl- Sarah J. Tucker, Ainsworth, Ainsworth Elks Lodge 2nd Place boy- Kasey J. Clapp, McCook, McCook Elks Lodge

Central District winners are the following: 1st Place girl- Alicia A. Dallman, Franklin, Kearney Elks Lodge 1st Place boy- Darin C. Russell, Thedford, Broken Bow Elks Lodge 2nd Place girl- Aimee M. Naber, Waco, York Elks Lodge 2nd Place boy- Ryan T. Santin, Palmer, Grand Island Elks Lodge

East District winners are the following: 1st Place girl- Maria T. Martinez, Omaha, Omaha Elks Lodge 1st Place boy- Adam C. Hatesohl, Greenleaf,Ks, Fairbury Elks Lodge 2nd Place girl- Cassandra A. Meyer, Hebron, Fairbury Elks Lodge 2nd Place boy- Jason P. Schmit, Randolph, Norfolk Elks Lodge

Five students were selected to receive Vocational Scholarship one-time grants for $750. They are the following: Daniel Lee Harris, Falls City, Falls City Elks Lodge Jessica R Wilson, Hazard, Broken Bow Elks Lodge Carla Lynn Jensen, St. Paul, Grand Island Elks Lodge Benjamin P. Woods, Alliance, Scottsbluff Elks Lodge Casey N. Killion, Grand Island, Grand Island Elks Lodge.

The total amount of awards being made by the Nebraska Elks Association is $28,000. Many of the winners will receive monetary awards from their sponsoring Elks Lodges which will bring the total of awards made by Nebraska Elks and their Lodges between $50,000 and $60,000 for the Elks "Most Valuable Student" Scholarship Program.
