During the month of February the Lodge Scholarship Committee met to review 51 applications for the Elks National Foundation’s Most Valuable Student Scholarship Program.  A total of 52 high schools in and around the Omaha Metropolitan area were contacted, with applications coming in from many of the schools.  Nearly 90 hours were spent reviewing and scoring the applications.  From this group of exceptional students, three young men and three young women were selected to represent our Lodge at the next level of competition.

At the conclusion of the scoring the following students have been selected: Thomas Dorwart from Gross High School, Nicholas Smock from Plattsmouth High School, William Gregory from Creighton Prep High School, Heather David from Northwest High School, Meghan Mercier from Westside High School, and Meghan Gaule from Westside High School.  In addition to representing our Lodge in the statewide competition, all six students will receive a one-time scholarship award awarded by Omaha Lodge #39.  The amounts of each award will be determined prior to the Youth Awards Banquet on May 3rd.

The results of the state-level competition will not be known until sometime in the latter part of March.  However, we congratulate all of the above named students for being selected.  We encourage all Lodge Members and their spouses to join us on May 3rd to honor these students during our annual Youth Awards Banquet.

This year’s Lodge Scholarship Committee Members were: PER Cliff McClean, PER Robert Howell, Exalted Ruler Mike Ohren, and PER David K. Nelson (Chairman)
