Ogallala Elks Dominate Ritual Awards
The Ogallala Elks Officer Team captured their their sixth consecutive state championship at the 93rd Annual State Convention which concluded this past Sunday at the Sand Hills Convention Center in North Platte. They will now represent the Nebraska Elks Association at the annual Elks Convention in Reno, Nevada, during Fourth of July week.
In addition, all the Ogallala officers received state All-Star Awards for their efforts. They are Scott Jeffers, Exalted Ruler; James V McQuillan, Leading Knight; Drew Krab, Loyal Knight; Travis Haggard, Lecturing Knight; Dr. Scott Weber, Esquire; Mike Wheeler, Chaplain; Jake Mueller, Inner Guard, and Mike McQuillan, Candidate.
Drew Krab was awarded the association's prestigious Nutzmann Award for Ritual Performance which goes to the Elk who achieves the top score in the competition.
Mike McQuillan received the Eleven O'Clock Toast Award for his outstanding performance in conducting the Elks Eleven O'Clock Toast. As a result of his performance, Mike had the opportunity to do the toast for the entire convention audience on Saturday night.
The Flag Tribute Award went to Mike Ohren, immediate past Exalted Ruler of the Omaha Lodge. Dave Mattson of the Kearney Elks Lodge received the George B. Klein Award for his long time efforts in Nebraska Ritual. Mattson has served as chair of the Nebraska Ritual Committee, and is a long-time coach and judge in Ritual.
