Nebraska Elks Lodges to Celebrate Elks Youth Week
The Nebraska Elks Lodges will be celebrating Elks Youth Week from May 2nd to
May 8th.
A variety of activities are planned in many of the Nebraska Elks Lodges.
Governor Johanns will be signing the Nebraska Elks Youth Week Proclamation at a
special ceremony to be held at the Warner Chamber of the State Capitol Building
in Lincoln at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 21st. State Youth Activities
Director Kevin Crook of Grand Island will lead a delegation of Nebraska Elks dignitaries
at the signing. A copy of the Proclamation will be sent to all
Nebraska Lodges.
Many of Nebraska Lodges will have their town or city mayor sign a Proclamation
for their town or city, and they will have a list of scheduled special
activities for that week. For example, the Norfolk Elks Lodge will kick
off the week with a Youth Recognition and Awards Dinner at which a city
councilman will read the Proclamation and declare Elks Youth Week in Norfolk.
Each day the Norfolk Lodge will conduct special Youth Week activities such as
Flag Day presentations a various schools, an area junior high school Elks Track
Meet and and area high school Elks Track Meet. On Saturday of that week
they are attempting to arrange to take handicapped and disadvantaged youth for
bowling and fun. The Norfolk Elks Lodge won a national award in 2002 for
their Youth Week Activities and have had an outstanding state and national Youth
Program..
The Falls City Elks have a full week of activities planned for youth and at one
time had won almost 30 consecutive annual awards for their program.
