The Elks
National Foundation provides more than $3.3
million in college scholarships each year to
graduating high school seniors. The "Most
Valuable Student," Eagle Scout, and Girl
Scout Gold Award scholarships are open to any
graduating high school senior. Legacy Awards
and Emergency Educational Fund Grants are
available only to children of Elks. The
application process and deadlines vary for
each of the programs. All applications, except
for the scouting scholarships, must go through
a local Elks Lodge before reaching the Elks
National Foundation office. Contact your high
school counselor for more information or your
local Elks Lodge.

Ferguson Golf Scholarship

Only one $500 grant will be offered
statewide and each Nebraska Elks Lodge can
submit an application. Open to boys or girls,
applications must be completed in full, the
applicant must be a member of his/her high
school golf team and be planning to
participate in a college golf program.
Applications must be returned to a Nebraska
Elks Lodge by January 15th.

2. Must be a participant in high
school golf and plan to participate in a
college golf program.
3. May attend either a two or four year
college.
4. Be certain that the Exalted
Ruler has signed the application.
5. Limited to one applicant from
each lodge. Each Lodge may receive
several applications, but must select the
best one to be submitted. All
applications must be submitted to the Lodge
by January 15th for judging.

Six one time grants are awarded (3 boy 3
girl) in the amount of $700 for the first
place, $500 for second place, and $400 for
third place winners at the state level. These
are open to high school seniors. Applications
may be copied, the application must be filled
in completely, and the basic emphasis in
judging will be on NEED. Applications must be
received at a Nebraska Elks Lodge by January
15th.
Qualifications:
1. Open to any high school senior.
2. The application blank must be filled out
completely with all blanks filled in. All
other information must be attached to the
application.
3. BASIC EMPHASIS WILL BE ON NEED.
4. Be certain that the Exalted Ruler has
signed and dated the application.
5. No restrictions on the type of school you
will attend; I.e., may be Beauty School,
Community College, Trade School, 2 or 4 year
college.
6. Limited to one boy and one girl
application from each lodge. In other words,
each lodge may receive several entries, but
must select one each to be submitted to
State PER Scholarship Committee for
pre-judging.
7. The enclosed application blanks will be
the only ones judged. All previous forms are
null and void.
8. ALL INFORMATION SUBMITTED IN THIS
APPLICATION IS SOLELY FOR THE USE OF THE
NEBRASKA ELKS ASSOCIATION.
9. Students may apply to only ONE
Elks Lodge.
10. All applications should be returned to
the local Lodge by January 15th for judging.

SCHOLARSHIP GRANT

VOCATIONAL
SCHOLARSHIP GRANT
These
are open to high school seniors who plan to attend a Trade School,
Technical
School
or Community College.
These grants are for seniors who plan to attend a two year or less
vocational-technical program for an associate degree, diploma or certificate. It
is not intended for students who will be attending a four-year college.
You cannot submit applications to both the Vocational Scholarship and the
Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship. One
boy and one girl applicant will be submitted from each Nebraska Elks Lodge to
the state association. Deadline for the application to be returned to the local
Elks Lodge is January 10.
Qualifications:
1.
APPLICATION: Applicant must use this
Nebraska Elks Association Form. The form must be dated and signed by the
applicant and the Lodge official. Typewritten applications and statements are
preferred over handwritten submissions and must be signed in all instances.
Applications and all supporting documents must be in English or English
translations. Letters must be originals, on one side of a single sheet of 8 1/2
x 11 inch paper, and signed by the applicant.
Exhibits should be neat, concise and in chronological order.
Letters of endorsement, etc. should be removed from envelopes and bound
flat with other documents.
2. ORDER OF EXHIBITS:
A. Application - completed.
B.
A statement by the applicant of not more than 200 words, summarizing his
or her activities, accomplishments, needs and objectives, which the applicant
thinks qualifies him or her for a grant, and outlines career goals and course
planned.
C.
A letter of not over 150 words from a parent or other person having
knowledge of the facts, presenting a picture of the family situation, and
showing the applicant's family background (such as number of children in family,
number of children still at home, and any information to establish factors to be
judged under judging standards.)
D.
A brief letter of endorsement from a responsible person, not related to
applicant, other than an educator, who has had an opportunity to personally
observe the applicant and who can give a worthwhile opinion of the character,
industry, disposition, and general worthiness of the applicant.
Additional letters may be written if desired.
No more than two additional letters may be written.
E.
No more than two letters from educators.
Letter(s) may cover applicant's ability, work habits, leadership,
personality and integrity.
F.
Grade record and scores from standardized tests.
ACT,SAT PSAT, PLAN AND ASVAB are examples of recognized acceptable tests.
H.
All application material must be bound on the left side.
The entire application should not exceed 20 pages.
Judging Will Be
For The Following:
1.
MOTIVATION-General worthiness, desire.
2.
NEED-Financial need, resourcefulness.
3.
SKILLS-Showing of good aptitude toward chosen vocation.
4.
GRADES & SCORES-Include copy of high school transcripts and test
scores.
5.
BROCHURE-Completeness, neatness, and ability to follow directions.
IMPORTANT: Be sure your brochure is in the hands of the
sponsoring Elks Lodge Chairman by January
10. Brochures received after
this date cannot be accepted.
