Today
I took the heads to S&B Automotive Machine. My plans changed a little bit
and for the better. After talking it over with them, we decided to go with a
5 angle valve job instead of 3. It is going to be cheaper than I expected also.
It is going to be $100 for the acid bath / magnaflux / 5 angle valve job. Then
I just have to pay for the price of new springs / retainers / valve locks. It
should come out to around $200. They are going to do it over the weekend and
when I go back to pick the heads up, I might buy a block from them too.
Today
I went back to S&B to okay the work that needs to be done. Both heads were
warped .005" so they both need to be milled, and one of the valves needs
to be replaced. Then, they need new valve seals and plugs and of course, the
valve job. With that added work that we didn't know about before, its going
to be $209 for the machine work plus whatever the springs cost. That's more
than I thought after the last visit, but that is still way cheaper than I originally
thought it would cost. The machine work should be done by monday or tuesday
they said, and when i get the heads back, I will update with pictures.

Today
I picked up the heads from S&B. They look beautiful. With the work that
needed to be done and some Comp Cams Springs/Retainers/Valve Locks, the grand
total came to 379.72. They did a really good job and if you live in the tri-city
area I definately recommend S&B for machine work. Below are some pics of
the heads I took as soon as I got back from the machine shop.

One
of the heads fresh from the machine shop. (Check out the cool blue Comp Cams
valve locks!)
Here
you can see how the heads were milled, they are now nice and straight. Notice
how one of the valves had to be replaced, that was the closest matching valve
they had.
Here
are the specs for the valve springs. They are single springs but they have an
inner damper spring too.
