Traffic Exchanges are primarily a means of driving people to your website.  These are highly Targeted visitors since the only people that see your web site are members of the TE and they Want to See your Site. Most TE's can also turn into very lucrative streams of additional income.  By getting referrals that buy credits and upgrade their account you gain commissions from those sales.  The more referrals the more potential for a great monthly income.  Most TE's also give you credits for pages your referrals surf.  This means less surfing and more hits to your site! 

Using a TE is simple.  After joining you are able to place your website into a rotation so others can see your page.  Most allow FREE members to place three (3) or more pages into the rotation.  As an upgraded member you can place many more into the traffic rotation.  Besides your website, most also allow for banner and text link advertising.  Most Internet Marketers will agree that Text Advertising is more effective than banner advertising.   After you have added your website to rotation, you have to assign some hit credits in order to get your page viewed by others.  Most people surf for credits, which is free.  Surfing consists of viewing other's websites for a short period, then clicking the appropriate symbol when the specified time has expired.  Each TE has a distinct "surf window" and it may take a little time to recognize the variations in theme and symbol.  The amount of credits you can get through surfing varies slightly between TE's, and you can also purchase credits.  On average you get 1/3 to 1/2 credit per page you view through surfing (upgraded members get more).  For example if you surf 100 pages you would get between 33 and 50 views of your page.  Most TE's also offer bonus credits  that appear during the surf, some after a set number of pages, some are more random. Cash, Text Impressions, Banner Impressions, Referrals, Temporary Upgrades, and more are common on many TE's also.   Many TE's also allow you to select how many times per day, and what percentage of credits you want to apply to a certain website.  That feature allows you, for instance to apply 50% to your primary site, 25% to an additional site, and 25% building up in your account.  The credits that build up are great for a number of reasons, first, you'll have credits available if you decide to take a day off from surfing.  Second, you will have additional credits available for weekends, holidays, and featured days, like if your site is running a referral contest.  Learn to watch for extra bonus days, referral contests and special reasons to surf.
