He rebuilt a new home upon the foundation of his former residence. Uriah A. HINSHAW, a widower in the 1900 Indiana census, has living with him his sons, Tully and Orval, his daughter Willimetta Ethel and her husband William E. HIATT, and their two daughters, Bessie and Mary. The family is living together on Uriah HINSHAW's farm. Although Uriah wasn't prominent in politics, he was a stanch supporter of the principles of the Republican party. Parents: Jacob B. "Evaline, daughter of Elza and Mary E. HINSHAW, was born 14 Oct 1876. She was a beautiful child, apt to learn and grew to womanhood in the old home community. On 4 Jan 1895 she was married to Austin GLOVER of Bloomingsport, IN where they resided until 1923. They have two children living and two dead. The living are Macil M. and Irvin. Eva is a devoted wife and mother and active in church and Sunday school work. After living near Richmond for a few years they moved back to Bloomingsport, where they now reside." She died on 22 Jul 1950 in , Randolph, IN.296 She was buried on 23 Jul 1950 in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Washington Twp,, Randolph, IN.296 Viola Eveline (?) GLOVER is buried in Lot #68, Space #4. 411 Eveline's grave is at the top of the hill a little south of the tree. The stone is rose with a low profile.

Eveline (HINSHAW) GLOVER was "received in membership" into the Cherry Grove Quaker congregation on 9 Mar 1918. Parents: Elza HINSHAW and Mary Ellen ROBBINS.

William HINSHAW was born in 1724 in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He immigrated in 1768 to North Carolina from Northern Ireland. An entry in the Grange MM minutes of 5 Feb 1768 states:

William Henshaw signified to this meeting that he and his brother, Jess, with their families intend to remove from this to America and desire our certificate. Thomas Dawson and Jas Pillar are desired to make the needful enquiry concerning them and return acct. how thay find things to next preparative meeting which is appointed to be held the 26th of 2nd mo.


An entry on 11 Mar 1768 shows that:

Certificates being drawn for Jess Hinshaw, Absolem Hinshaw and William Hinshaw with their families, also for Alice Hinshaw, the same was signed in this meeting. Jonah Shaw is desired to record copies of said certificates and deliver the originals to said Friends.


The Grange MM minutes later recorded:

It Appears that Jesse Hindshaw, Absolem Hindshaw & Willm Hindshaw with their respective families and also Alice Hindshaw removed to America in the year 1768.


William and family (sans poor Sarah) presented their certificates to the Cane Creek MM in North Carolina on 4 Nov 1769. The Cane Creek MM men's records list:

William Hinshaw received on a certificate. 406 William was a farmer and a weaver. He quickly acquired land in North Carolina for his family's new home. A deed was recorded on 19 Oct 1768 in the Orange County Deed Book III, page 505:

From Herman Husbands of Orange County, farmer, to Wm. Hinshaw of same, weaver, for consideration of L40 -- 166 acres on branch of "Sand Creek" [Sandy Creek], part of a tract granted to said Husbands from Lord Granville, 10 Dec 1762 for 700 acres.

Witnessed by Jacob Hinshaw and Stephen Jones. Proven 27 Mar 1769.


Another deed was recorded on 20 Feb 1769 in the Orange County Deed Book III, page 506:

Enos Stimson [Stinson] and wife Elizabeth, of Orange County, to Wm Hinshaw, late of the Kingdom of Ireland, now of sd county, weaver, consideration: L25 -- 80 acres, part of a tract granted to Thomas Swift on a branch of Sandy Creek, the waters of Deep River.

Witnessed by Jacob Hinshaw and John Fruit. Proven 27 Mar 1769.


The land purchased by William was part of what was then Orange County but later became Guilford County in 1771, and then Randolph County in 1779. He served in the military between 1775 and 1783 in , , NC.412 William was noted for patriotic service during the Revolutionary War. He is listed in the Patriot Index of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He signed a will on 24 Dec 1809 in , Randolph, NC. William's will as probated in May 1818. He died on 4 Dec 1814 in Holly Spring MM, Randolph, NC.403 He was buried on 5 Dec 1814 in Holly Spring MM (Quaker), Randolph, NC.403 Parents: John HINSHAW and Elizabeth BELSHAW.

Spouse: Sarah COURTNEY. William HINSHAW and Sarah COURTNEY were married on 1 Apr 1749 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. At the Grange MM on 13 Feb 1750, "William Hinshaw, the younger" was disowned for marrying a "young woman of Ballinderry/Blandenderry" by a priest. But, William made a written 'offering' to Grange MM, dated 25 Jan 1758, expressing sorrow for his misconduct and asking to be reinstated in membership. This was accepted by Grange MM on 27 Jan 1759.

Sarah, who was a member of the Lisburn MM, was also disowned by her Meeting. She sent a letter (offering) to Lisburn MM on 2 Mar 1758 acknowledging her fault and asking to be reinstated in membership. This was accepted by Lisburn MM about the same time Grange MM accepted William's offering. Sarah was then transferred to Grange MM as wife of William Hinshaw. Children were: Ezra HINSHAW, Thomas HINSHAW, William HINSHAW, Sarah HINSHAW, John HINSHAW.
