Welcome to 1080 Avalanche!

Welcome to the 1080 Avalanche website! 1080 is a snowboarding game for the Nintendo Gamecube, and is quite possibly rickyone of the best games for the system. Featuring incredible graphics, a top notch soundtrack, great control, and awesome features, this game has it all! 1080 Avalanche was released in December 2003, along with another high profile snowboarding game, SSX 3. Though SSX 3 focused on having the player pull off more and more flashy and extreme stunts, 1080 focused on the more important aspects of the genre... pure speed and fun. Yes, there is a stunt system incorporated into 1080, but the focus is still on being the first across the finish line. But races are just part of the fun. You'll also take part in Time Attack (where you see just how fast you can zip down a given run), Gate Attack (zipping through gates to get a high score), and the Trick Attack (where you can show off your stunts in three different arenas). You can even race it out with up to four different racers in LAN mode. You'll find plenty to do andscreenshots even more secrets to unlock.
The graphics of the game are extremely polished, with vast and fun environment designs that hold many different shortcuts. Each course has its own weather patterns, from a crisp and clear sunny day to an outright blizzard. The boarders are very detailed, even to the point where if you take a tumble during a race, you'll be covered in powder when you reach the finish line.
The controls couldn't be simpler, but that's standard for Nintendo; easy to pick up and learn, but extremely hard to master. It's easy to jump into the air and pull off some nice grabs and spins. But perhaps not so easy as learning how to land each stunt without planting your face into the snow.
The soundtrack features licensed music (a first for Nintendo) from such hot bands as Cauterize, Seether and BoySetsFire, as well as great tunes from Nintendo's own house bands. Overall, if you own a Gamecube, and were disappointed with SSX3 and it's focus on stat building rather than actual snowboarding, give 1080 a spin. You won't regret it.
