The Order of the Dragon Faithful

I. The Story of the Dragon

"In the most distant depths of Time, there was born the Dragon. With his every footstep Creation shuddered. Evil shrank from his very gaze, and none could stand before him unchanged. Some fled, some hid, some fell faint when faced with his terrible countenance. But some met his gaze and knew him to be their brother. These few did not fear, but rather welcomed the Dragon's Maw."

"These stout hearts went out into to the world and sought others of a like mind and courage. Many they found, and many found them. Many worlds and lands they wandered, many foul beasts they slew, and much honor and glory did they earn in the name of the Dragon. Worlds of science and technology, worlds of magic and mastery of the the sword, even worlds of darkness and evil, but ever their home remained the lands of Kesmai. Then came the First Time of Sadness, and the Great Parting."

"A new world had been discovered, the world Of Norrath, and it held enchantments and the promise of treasures and glory as yet unknown to those of the Dragon. Many of the Dragon's followers girded themselves for the battles to come, bade farewell to their fellows who were loathe to abandon their traditional home, and departed to make the Way of the Dragon known there. Much sorrow was felt by all, and some who stayed behind were resentful, but mainly there was a sense of loss of loved bretheren."

"The time of the lands of Kesmai waned, and the Ghods ultimately saw fit to destroy both of the ancestral lands of the Dragon's followers : Solaris, where they had first walked in his name and won the respect of friend and foe alike, and the lands of Kesmai, where many of his most devoted followers were found and brought into the fold of the Family of the Dragon. This brought about the Second Time of Sadness, and the Sundering."

"Many of the followers of the Dragon went astray and were lost to the Void, but some of the most dedicated of those left behind then moved on to the world of Althea. They continued their works in the name of the Dragon, knowing little or nothing of their bretheren in Norrath, although some ultimately joined them there. Those that chose Althea as their new home taught the way of the Dragon to new followers, and continued to compile honor and glory in His name. Then occured the Third Time of Sadness."

"The rulers of Althea became despotic and cruel, and the Family of the Dragon chafed under their unjust rule. The situation became intolerable, and most chose to depart and find what homes they could rather than suffer under the thumb of tyrants. Some found new, albeit temporary, homes, while some chose to wander the void. But hope had sprung anew during their time in Althea."

"The Dragon Family of Norrath made contact at long last, and ties were established. A council was formed for the purpose of exploring new worlds for those of the Dragon to make their homes in. Much promise and optimism prevailed, and a healing of the Great Parting came to pass. Alas, it was all for naught."

"Many new homes were examined, and one was chosen to be a temporary home until such time as the land of Aerynth could be occupied, as the Ghods still held that land as their own and refused the Family of the Dragon entry. The land of Hibernia became this home, and some left Norrath to pave the way for those who might wish to follow."

"Those who had stayed behind in the Great Parting did not immediately take to this new land. Some had reservations of whether it would truly be a good home, others had not the means to make the journey right away, and for some both were true. But in time the seperation from their bretheren became too much to bear, and make the journey they did."

"Sadly, what they found there was a false Family, either having forgotten parts of the Way of the Dragon or, having come first to the land of Hibernia and then to the Dragon, never having truly known the Way. Many of these newcomers were indeed true followers of the Dragon despite their limited knowledge of His Way, but some of the most prominent among them were false, and sought the Dragon only for His Power, and cared not for His Wisdom. They realized not that without Wisdom, Power is fleeting and easily corrupted."

"Thus came the Fourth and last Time of Sadness, when a few realized that the land of Norrath had been but a fair disguise for the face of Corruption. They saw that those who had made Norrath their home for any length of time were tainted by it and no longer walked the Dragon's path. Seeing no other alternative, they steeled themselves against the sadness of what they must do and bade farewell to the shadow of what had once been the Family of the Dragon."

"Determined to teach a new following the Way, they now call themselves the Order of the Dragon Faithful and build a new Family on the foundation of the path taught to them so many years ago. They are patient, knowing that achieving their goals will not be swift, and that many hardships are yet to come, but their faith in their Brother, the Dragon, guides them and sustains them."
