Description Tall and thin, this human moves with uncharacteristic grace. Light, near imperceptable tattoos depict scenes of struggles between chaos and order and good and evil. His pack is tidy and efficent although heavy, a strap is looped around his quarterstaff so the bag may be easily shed when needed. Ashrem sits whenever he is not moving, conserving energy.
Bio In all things: Ashrem seeks perfection.He came to Lemelle as a guard for the retired winery caravan master. He was the last guard for the old man who had finally earned his retirement. The old man was Brother Gherig who was in truth Ashrem’s latest mentor although the formality of their relationship wouldn’t allow either of them to admit it. Brother Gherig had come from the same background as Ashrem albeit a generation earlier. Both had been orphaned by nasty invasions of goblinoids and both grew up walking the same paths in the monastery. Both stomped grapes as children and both guarded the winery caravan on its yearly delivery tour as they grew older and proved their dedication as fierce fighters. Gherig had seen over 90 summers and still enjoyed decent health as do those who follow the strict path of meditation, ritual, and diet. He hardly needed a guard but requested that Ashrem come along nonetheless.It is still early morning when Ashrem departed Lemelle. He rose and performed his morning rituals. He stretched, meditated (a ritual affair of movements precisely performed with perfection to exercise the body and mind), then ran to work the lower body and get his heart pumping. Then he did several exercises for his upper body to build muscle. This morning he took the opportunity to bathe and launder his robes as he does as often as possible. Then he ate a breakfast of eggs, fruit and milk. Gherig had allowed him to stay only the one night before sending him on his way with a curt bow. The old man did provide him with a decent stipend and pointed to the road back to the monastery. Ashrem looks forward to a position as a teamster or merchant in the caravan where he might learn the tasks required to become a master just as Gherig was. The old man’s retirement would shuffle positions and Gherig expects his name to come up for promotion.Ashrem knows that he will not be missed until the formation of the next caravan for the annual tour which would be in about 7 moons from now. He decides that he will entreat a diversion in the meantime, a hiatus from monastic life. He senses that such diversion is required for a brother to ascend beyond the life of a mindless laborer. For a moment he ponders if this is precisely why Gherig had asked him to come along. Then he turns away from the direction Gherig pointed and heads down a different road, a path into the unknown, in search of enlightenment and serenity.
