| Description | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Pax is tall and
thin. He has long dark hair that he ties back when he is working in his
fathers smithy. His thinness betrays lanky muscle and considerable
strength of body and spirit. He has a thick jaw, dominant brow and dark
eyes. He is rarely ever seen other than stoking the fire, pulling on
the bellows or hammering out nails on the anvil. |

| Biography | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Many of Paxeco's
earliest memories have the sound of his father's hammering in the
background. As soon as he could stand on a chair and reach the bellows
he was working for his father and that is where he stood as he grew.
When he passed strapping age he began training with the guardsman once
a week as his father insisted. His father insisted that "Even in times
of peace it's not a bad idea to have young men trained to fight." They
taught him how to fight with sword and shield and hit a target at a
decent distance with a long bow. Quite often they would praise his
progress and tell him he'd fit right in as a keeper of the law. Often it seems to the young man that his father reminds him of his heritage at least once a day. Paxeco can sometimes see it coming and has learned to suffer through it with a nod of acquiescence. Apparently one of Pax's ancestors fought in the War of the Red Dagger and died. To Paxeco it seems like futility and failure to Paxeco but his father insists it was borne in valor and tremendous dedication to the Koral lineage. Pax is a young man and has different priorities and interests than his father as all young men do. The stories seemed but a nuisance and almost mythological until the events of the last five weeks. First the rumors of the Princesses disappearance and then people claiming to witness the abduction of the Crown Prince in broad daylight not far from Paxeco's home. That very night his father pulled down that old set of armor down from the hearth. Paxeco had known they were there and knew what they were but the layer of dust hid their magnificence. It soon became clear to Paxeco that this was no blacksmiths craft but true artisanship by a master armorer. The elder Stahli handed Paxecho a bracer to scrub as he told a familiar tale of how his forefather had crafted fine armor before the war and answered the call when times became dire. This was the armor he wore and died in. The armor was in good condition, only the bindings and laces needed to be replaced and his father knew just the right man for that job. Paxecho looked it over thoughtfully but found no damage or evidence why the wearer had died. His father clean out the cobwebs and made sure any spiders were gone before clamping the breast plate over Paxecho's torso. It fit well; clearly Pax was of similar build to his ancestor. His father nodded his approval and walked over to a corner of the shop where several of the longer tools stood. Behind them, against the wall, was a large metal shield covered with a thick layer of dust. Paxeco had noticed it before but it was less than pristine and he had dismissed it as a relic of no value. When exposed to the light it became apparent the shield was of decent craftsmanship though it would require some repair to be functional. The paint was faded and chipped but it was clearly the heraldry of the house of Koral though of no recent style. As Paxeco looked over the shield his father picked up something laying along the bottom of the wall. It was well hidden behind the shield. This was something that Paxeco hadn't and he soon forgot all about the shield. His father pulled the oiled cloth to expose a sword and Paxeco's interest piqued. This was the finest weapon he had ever seen by far. The long sword was clearly the result of long hours at the forge by a meticulous and patient metalworker. Paxecho took up the weapon at his fathers offer and felt it fill his palm. He raised the point and knew right away that the weapons he trained with paled in comparison. This sword was not made for parades or audience, it was made to kill. The double edged blade exhibited a folded metal technique that Paxecho had heard of but never seen and a wide fuller extended about 2/3's the length. It was made with a full tang, unadorned pommel and cross. The grip was leather and worn, it would have to be replaced. Paxecho went to sleep that night dreaming of glory. Early the next day his father pushed a cart containing the sword, shield and armor. He returned without them to find Paxecho daydreaming instead of stoking the fire. The day would be half done before the work would begin but Paxecho went to train at the appropriate time anyway just as he has for the last two weeks since the Prince's abduction. Paxecho questioned his father about the change in routine and the expense of restoration of the old armor and sword a couple of times but only recieved a shrug in response. A couple of days ago his father brought back the suit of armor and the shield. The leatherwork had been redone and they worked late the last few nights to clean them up and fit them to Paxecho. Today the sword returned and had been honed to razor sharpness with a new grip made of braided wire. Still the elder Stahli offers no explanation for his actions. |
