You'll find that the few Residents/Owners and Park Rangers are friendly and helpful and very intolerant of anyone disturbing the island's tranquility or leaving anything but foot prints. You'll share these feelings and join in guarding the tranquility and unspoiled beauty after staying on the island. Also there is an island protocol on visiting. It's OK to call out someone's name in their yard as you did as a child. It's also OK for them to not answer even if home, and that means go away. Cayo Costians like their privacy. Of course in an emergency, all will help. Cayo Costa was home to Carol Sellars, the 94 year-old naturalist and shelling expert featured in the New York Times and National Geographic. Her house is shown the Hand Drawn Map. We had many a good time with Carol. Dear Carol passed away in November of '07. See 'Shell Lady" of Cayo Costa Dies and Carol Sellars Remembered . Jaclynn Willett's house is also shown on the the Hand Drawn Map and is just down the path north of the house. She provides housekeeping and is helpful. |
