Cayo Costa is the only undeveloped, barrier island in Florida, located south of Boca Grande and north of North Captiva. Its pristine beauty and spectacular beaches are unrivalled and unpopulated. It is only reached by boat and there are no utilities or services available on the island. The north end of the island is a state park with campgrounds and souvenirs. Ninety percent of the island is owned by the State of Florida. There is great fishing in the lagoon on the west or Gulf side of the island and trout fishing in the flats east of the island, along with world-famous tarpon fishing. See Activities for a more complete description of the fishing opportunity. The shelling is fantastic just after a storm and is always better than the populated beaches on islands to the north and south. Shelling tours come to Cayo Costa. The sunsets are awesome from the incredible beach, with no homes in easy sight, and few if any people on this seven-mile-long, three-fourths-mile-wide island. Read Cayo Costa Articles for further description of this beautiful unique, pristine, unpopulated, tranquil island and its spectacular miles of white sand beach. |
